About the Speaker

Jeannie Opdyke Smith will be sharing the powerful and riveting true story of her mother, Polish rescuer Irene Gut Opdyke, who, as a young gentile girl, changed the world for dozens of people during the Holocaust. This almost unbelievable story earned her mother the designation as one of the Righteous Among the Nations and an Israel Medal of Honor. Her story has been told in the best-selling book, In My Hands: Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer, as well as through a Broadway play, Irena’s Vow.

The story Jeannie shares speaks to the horrors and hate of the Holocaust – but also brings a message of faith, love, hope, and that good can triumph over evil. It proclaims the conviction that one by one we can say no to hatred, persecution, and prejudice; speaks of the power of love; and encourages an undeniable truth – “one person can and does make a difference.”
