Jewish Federation of St. Louis’ Sh’ma Listen! Speaker Series, Anti-Defamation League of St. Louis, United Hebrew Congregation and the Center for Jewish Learning are bringing Ira Forman to the community. Forman will present “Increasing Anti-Semitism: How Bad Is It? What Can Be Done?” on Tuesday, January 9 at 7:00 pm at United Hebrew Congregation, 13788 Conway Road, 63141.
In this presentation, Forman will be addressing a popular question, “In the wake of the white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, is antisemitism in America is on the rise?” Forman continues, “We know for a fact that in many other Diaspora communities anti-Semitism is an increasing threat. So how bad is it – here in America and in Jewish communities in Europe, South America, Asia and even Africa? How do we assess the nature and severity of anti-Semitism in any given country? Most importantly, what can we do and what can governments do to counter these trends?”
Ira Forman served under the Obama administration as the State Department’s Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism (SEAS) from 2013- 2017. Prior to serving as SEAS, Mr. Forman accumulated 40 years of experience in Jewish communal work and public service. He is currently the Distinguished Visiting Professor in Anti-Semitism at the Center for Jewish Civilization at Georgetown University.
