We are horrified and profoundly saddened by the vandalism at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery in University City, Missouri on February 20, 2017. Over 170 Jewish gravestones were knocked over in the oldest section of the cemetery. Local police from University City are reviewing surveillance footage.
The damage sustained is going to need professional help as the monuments weigh thousands of pounds. In response, the Jewish Federation of St. Louis has opened the Jewish Cemetery Restoration and Security Fund to assist Chesed Shel Emeth with the vast repairs that will be needed.
Funds donated to the Jewish Cemetery Restoration and Security Fund will be used to support the restoration and security needs of Chesed Shel Emeth. Any additional funds raised will be used to support the growing security needs of the Jewish Community.
As with all emergency funds, the dollars raised will fund the specific target and not be used for other purposes.
Jewish Federation of St. Louis is committed to addressing the needs of our community and will be making a lead emergency allocation to the Jewish Cemetery Restoration and Security Fund.
Additionally, please join us at a Community Solidarity Event on Wednesday, February 22 at 4:00 pm outside the Cemetery at 7550 Olive Blvd, University City, MO, 63130. More details to follow.
We thank you in advance for your generosity.
Is any help needed to clean up at the cemetery tomorrow afternoon? I’d be happy to come help.
Yes, please! All are welcome and we can never have too much help. Thank you so much for your support!
I see the 4:00pm event outside the Cemetery. I live in Kansas City and want to come over and help. What time should I, hopefully my daughter also, need to be there to help inside the Cemetery with the Clean-up?
Thank you so much for your support! Clean up is happening between 3:00 and 4:00 pm. You can come and go as you please, any help is appreciated. Extra supplies are needed, so please feel free to bring extra trash bags, a rake, buckets, wash rags, etc. You are also more than welcome to stay for the event at 4:00 pm after clean up has finished. We hope that you can make it. Thank you again!
Hi – Can you please let me know the best way to help? What are the best times to come and assist with clean-up? Is showing up after work tomorrow ok? Or should we notify anyone we are coming? Thank you.
You do not need to notify anyone that you are coming – all are welcome anytime between 3:00 and 4:00 pm to help clean up. Extra supplies are needed, so please feel free to bring extra trash bags, a rake, buckets, wash rags, etc. Thank you so much for your support!
