Join Jewish Federation of St. Louis for the next event in the Sh’ma: Listen! Speaker Series on Tuesday, April 5 at 7:00 pm with Avi Melamed.
Avi Melamed will be exploring “GPS: Navigating the Middle East in the 21st Century.” In the second decade of the 21st Century, the 20th Century Middle East disappears and a new, yet at the same time old, Middle East emerges. The turbulence, generated by the eruption of decades of unrest and growing tensions, continues to rock the Arab and Muslim world and is generating changes across the region. This presentation gives the background to today’s current events; focuses on up-to date, real-time analysis of unfolding events in the Arab and Muslim world and projected impact on the local, regional and global level; and provides a “roadmap” to predict where the future might lead.
Avi Melamed is a former Israeli senior official on Arab Affairs and Intelligence. Today, he is an independent Middle East strategic intelligence analyst, lecturer and the Fellow of Intelligence and Middle East Affairs at the Eisenhower Institute in Washington, D.C., and on the Gettysburg College campus. Avi spent many years operating in Arab cities and communities throughout the region, often in high-risk positions at sensitive times. Avi has authored three books, including recently published “Inside the Middle East: Making Sense of the Most Dangerous and Complicated Region on Earth.” Avi is a frequent contributor in Arabic, Hebrew and English to many news outlets including Al-Arrabiya, Al-Jazeera, BBC, CBN, I-24 News, Times of Israel, USA Today and more.
The event will take place at Congregation Shaare Emeth, 11645 Ladue Road. “Inside the Middle East” will be available for sale and signing by the author.
