The World Jewish Restitution Organization (WJRO) wishes to inform Holocaust victims from Poland that they may be eligible to receive monthly payments of about $130 from the Polish government. A recent law enables eligible war veterans or victims of oppression to receive the payments outside of Poland.

Eligibility is determined by Poland’s Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression. Those eligible must be a Polish citizen as of September 1, 1939 and someone who:

  • was detained by the Nazis in ghettos, prisons, concentration camps, extermination camps, or similar places of detention
  • was forcibly deported to the Soviet Union;
  • served of the Allied militaries, or in the Polish underground during the Second World War; or
  • otherwise is considered a veteran or victim of oppression.

Contact the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression at info@udskior.gov.pl or contact Ken Schwartz at Jewish Family & Children’s Service at 314-812-9320 for more information.

The WJRO has been advocating for the Polish government to make the application process easier for survivors. WJRO posts information about the program, including updates and links to the application and other resources, on https://polishrestitution.com/pensions. WJRO is working with the Claims Conference, American Gathering, social service agencies, and others to publicize information about the program to survivors who may be eligible.
