What comes after Gaza? Jewish Federation of St. Louis and AJC invite the community to a special presentation with Matthew Kalman. As a British foreign correspondent based in Jerusalem, Kalman will discuss strategic realities for Israel after Operation Protective Edge. The event will take place at Sweetology, 9214 Clayton Rd, at 7:00 pm on Monday, December 1. A light reception will precede the formal program; dietary laws observed.

Kalman explains that the Netanyahu government is facing a number of strategic challenges as a result of the military operation against Hamas in Gaza during the summer. His presentation will discuss the following difficult questions: Were the goals of the operation met? What is the spillover effect of the operation on the Israeli political scene, on the prospects for a negotiated peace, and on friends and foes outside of Israel?

Former editor-in-chief of The Jerusalem Report, Matthew Kalman is a columnist at Haaretz and co-author of The Murder of Yasser Arafat and Psychobibi. He has reported on the Middle East for Time, Newsweek, USA Today and the Boston Globe. He co-directed the comedy documentary Circumcise Me: The Comedy of Yisrael Campbell. His first novel Moses Takes a Bath will be published in 2015.
