This House – Kathy Sitzer, Opera Theatre of St. Louis

Music. Discover the haunting beauty of “This House,” an opera set in a historic Harlem brownstone that explores the depths of familial history over 100 years of one family’s residency. When Zoe returns home after many years of absence, she proposes renovations, but her mother and brother resist, gradually revealing hidden truths and unresolved tensions that bind them.

Join Kathy Sitzer from Opera Theatre of Saint Louis will join us at the Mirowitz Center to explore this commissioned World Premiere Opera. She will share the story, provide historical context, and feature excerpts from a previous collaboration between composer Ricky Ian Gordon and Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and her daughter Ruby Aiyo Gerber. “This House,” created by the same team, is part of the OTSL 2025 50th Anniversary season. It is a powerful exploration of identity, heritage, and the passage of time.
