On Israel’s Frontline: A Story of Resilience and Humanity Amid Crisis

Join us for an exclusive opportunity for Professional Society members to hear from Professor Eilon Shany, Director of the Neonatal Department, Soroka Medical Center in Israel. He will share his experience working at one of Israel’s largest, most advanced, and most active hospitals on and since October 7.

On Saturday, October 7, as war erupted, Soroka Medical Center confronted challenges of an unparalleled magnitude–– Challenges no other hospital in Israel has ever been called upon to face. The overwhleming number of casualties, the severity of their injuries, and the rate at which they arrived at the emergency department all stretched the treatment capacity to the limit. On the first day of the war, they treated over 670 casualties, more than 130 of them seriously or critically injured. So far, they have treated almost 4,000 casualties and received hostages – they also had a nurse who came back from captivity.
