Advances in medical technology and the healthcare industry not only have prolonged life expectancies, but also changed what was once considered the natural progression of death. Dr. Erin Bakanas, with Washington University’s Division of Palliative Medicine, talks about these issues as well as ethical difficulties that sometimes arise when families need to make hard decisions about treatments such as resuscitation, mechanical ventilation, and artificial nutrition and hydration – while still respecting a patients’ desires. No cost to register, but RSVP required.
