Libby Sorkin Routman, 81, says Jewish Federation’s Naturally Occurring Retirement Community program literally saved her life. Libby lives alone. One day she experienced a severe reaction to a medication. Sick, unable to prepare her own meals and very scared, she wasn’t sure what to do. So, she called the NORC staff for help. Someone immediately contacted the Jewish Community Center Social Nutrition “meals on wheels” program. Within a day, a hot kosher meal was delivered to Libby’s door — which continued daily for a few months until Libby recuperated. It was also a way for the driver to check on Libby each day. Libby, who is extremely grateful, has donated to Federation for more than 50 years. She said, “I will continue to do so. But now I’ll give from a new perspective.”
