To our St. Louis Jewish community,

We continue to be in contact with community leaders following Friday afternoon’s storms and tornadoes. Throughout Shabbat, our Security team members visited synagogues and other organizations, working with local authorities to assess the damage and help with any immediate needs. Our thoughts are with the families most impacted in North St. Louis and those throughout in our community who have suffered damage to their homes and property.

As expected, we have heard from many of you asking the simple question: how can we help? Tzedakah is core to who we are as a Jewish people, built on mutual responsibility to help each other and especially those most vulnerable.

If you are interested in providing financial support to our community, we encourage you to support the May 16, 2025 Severe Storm/Tornado Relief Fund, coordinated by our partners at the United Way of Greater St. Louis. The fund will help with the immediate and long-term recovery efforts as well as crisis response partners that are equipped and trained to respond in times of natural disaster. All storm relief funds collected will be deployed in response to activities to this crisis and in partnership with Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) and Long-Term Recovery Committees (LTRC).

The United Way also has a volunteer form, allowing people to sign up and be notified when local authorities determine it is safe.

If you would like to contribute to any relief effort through a Donor Advised Fund held by the Federation, please contact Shelly Azar, Director of Legacy Giving, at sazar@jfedstl.org.

In addition, the St. Louis Jewish Loan Association is available to provide financial stability to the Jewish community during times of financial hardship or need. These interest-free loans are designed to empower recipients to regain stability and move forward with strength. To learn more about the program, click here, and thank you for sharing the information with those who may benefit from support. The website also includes information about how donations support the program.

As always, thank you for being there for each other, helping our neighbors clean up from the damage and ensuring no member of our community faces hardship alone.

In solidarity,
Danny Cohn
