Join the Jewish Federation of St. Louis for the next event in the Sh’ma: Listen! Speaker Series on Tuesday, August 30 at 7:00 pm with Dr. Michael Berger.

Dr. Michael Berger will be exploring “Jews Are Just Like Everyone Else…Only More So: The Changing Face of American Religion and What It Means for Judaism.” Recent studies have highlighted the various ways American Jews practice their religion, but these trends are best understood against the backdrop of American religion generally. How do Americans think about and practice religion today as compared to prior generations? Emory professor Dr. Michael Berger will provide facts and insights into the rapidly changing landscape of contemporary religion in America and show how these changes have affected the development of American Judaism since the 1970s.

Dr. Michael Berger is Associate Professor of Jewish Law and Ethics at Emory University, where he teaches courses in Rabbinics, medieval and modern Jewish thought, and Jewish ethics. A graduate of Princeton University (BA) and Columbia University (Ph.D.), he is the author of Rabbinic Authority (1998) and edited Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik’s The Emergence of Ethical Man (2005). An ordained rabbi, Dr. Berger lectures frequently around the country for the Wexner Heritage Program. He is also a program officer for the Avi Chai Foundation.

The event will take place at the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, 12 Millstone Campus Drive. “Inside the Middle East” will be available for sale and signing by the author.
