Shabbat experience was so interesting. The public shabbat service we planned to attend was cancelled because of the current unrest. Now what? We’re in Jerusalem, the sun is beginning to set, and no Shabbat service? Fortunately, Rabbi Talve answered her cell phone! We found a quiet rooftop overlooking Jerusalem while she found Rabbi Fleisher.
What happened next was one of the most moving experiences of the trip. As the sun was setting, we listened as Susan and Randy led us in prayer and song as the sun was setting over Jerusalem. This connection to our St. Louis Jewish community was so meaningful to everyone. Susan and Randy were able to put our experience in context. We were able to say Kaddish for our loved ones. Everyone was in tears throughout this meaningful service. Unbelievable.
We spent the rest of the evening at the home of Ruth Yudkiwitz sharing a Shabbat meal we spent the afternoon preparing.
