Jewish Federation of St. Louis has launched a summer internship program that will combine meaningful employment and a community connection experience for students who either live or study in St. Louis. From over 35 applications, 10 interns have been selected for The Internship Experience for Future Community Leaders; an eight-week paid summer opportunity that will provide employment at a local business or non-profit organization, a community mentor and opportunities for students to engage with the local Jewish community as part of a special cohort.

The 2015 Interns are:

  • Katherine Nachbar – a rising Senior at Cornell University studying Economics & Asian Studies.  Katherine will be working at TechArtista with Managing Partners & Founders Chris Holt & Eric Hamblett on a variety of projects in the Finance & Marketing realm. TechArtista is collaborative co-working space for innovators, students and business professionals.
  • Lily Schacht – a rising Junior at Washington University in St. Louis studying Chemical Engineering. Lily will be working at DEMA Engineering this summer on a variety of processes and lab work. DEMA is a leading supplier of chemical dispensing systems, fluid control devices and industrial solenoid valves, strainers, pumps and injectors for virtually any industrial, institutional and professional market.
  • Ali Hunter – a rising Junior at University of Tampa studying Elementary Education. Ali will be working at B’nai Amoona Congregation this summer as a senior staff member at Camp Ramot Amoona.  Ali will be working to develop programming, ensure organization, and supervise other camp staff.
  • Rebecca Cohen – a rising Junior at Drake University studying Marketing & Finance with an Information Systems Concentration. Rebecca will be working at Fox Rodney Search this summer and will be focusing on the development and execution of marketing plans for their various service offerings. Fox Rodney Search is a global legal recruitment boutique focusing on partner and associate searches and team moves as well as general counsel and head of legal in-house searches.
  • Samuel Gallup – a rising Junior at Truman State University studying Accounting & Financial Management.  Sam will be working for Zoltek as a part of their finance team. Zoltek Companies, Inc., engages in the development, manufacturing, and marketing of carbon fiber for various applications.
  • Jacob Sandweiss – a rising Junior at University of Miami majoring in Accounting and minoring in Finance. Jacob will be working at Tarlton Construction in their accounting department, primarily focused on Accounts Payable. Tarlton Corporation is a general contractor and construction manager with expertise in life science, power and energy, and concrete restoration.
  • Robert Berman – a rising Senior at Lindenwood University majoring in Finance. Robert will be working at Manor Real Estate assisting company Vice President & YPD President Ben Cherry with a variety of projects in the Commercial Real Estate sphere. Manor Real Estate is a full-service real estate firm focusing on both Commercial & Residential Real Estate that has been in business for over four decades.
  • Jacqueline Heymann – a rising Junior at Drake University studying Politics & Sociology. Jackie will be working at Missouri Jobs with Justice and will take leadership in organizing Labor in the Pulpits, a state-wide day focused on celebrating the sacredness of work and continuing the push for greater workers’ rights. Jobs with Justice is an action-oriented organization focused on fighting for economic and social justice as it relates to workers’ rights.
  • Katherine Frank – a rising Junior at Tulane University studying Marketing. Katie will be working at Cooperative Home Care this summer in their marketing department focusing on Social Media engagement, blog development, and copy writing.  Cooperative Home Care brings healthcare to homes focusing on skilled nursing, therapy, and in-home care.
  • Leah Gluck – a rising Senior at Washington University in St. Louis majoring in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology and minoring in Arabic. Leah will be working at the St. Louis Chapter of The National Council of Jewish Women with Executive Director, Ellen Alper. The National Council of Jewish Women is a volunteer organization that has been at the forefront of social change for over a century — championing the needs of women, children, and families — while courageously taking a progressive stance on such issues as child welfare, women’s rights, and reproductive freedom.

In addition to the internship, each student will be paired with a mentor in the community who will help guide them throughout the internship experience. Finally, all participants will engage in a series of leadership development sessions to help hone skills in areas such as networking, communication, leadership styles and more.
