Jewish Federation of St. Louis and Saul Brodsky Jewish Community Library Present the Next SH’MA: Listen! Speaker Series Israel Edition with Gershom Gorenberg
Israel is unique among the baby boom of new countries that gained independence after World War II. It has maintained a parliamentary democracy continuously. Yet many believe that some decisions and policies with unexpected consequences now threaten Israel’s future as a democratic and Jewish state. On February 16, Jewish Federation of St. Louis and Saul Brodsky Jewish Community Library invite the community to an interactive conversation with Gershom Gorenberg, author, senior correspondent for The American Prospect and columnist for Haaretz.
Mr. Gorenberg will describe the development of Israeli democracy and policies that might undermine it, and will discuss what can be done to preserve and renew the Israeli republic. This event will take place at Jewish Federation of St. Louis Kopolow Building, 12 Millstone Campus Drive, 63146, at 7:00 pm.
Gershom Gorenberg is the author of The Unmaking of Israel (Harper Collins 2011), a provocative examination of Israeli history that describes the crisis of Israeli democracy and lays out a vision for the country’s future. Gorenberg has also written for The Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times Magazine, The New York Review of Books, and Foreign Policy. He blogs at SouthJerusalem.com and tweets at @GershomG. He lives in Jerusalem.
Jewish Federation of St. Louis and Saul Brodsky Jewish Community Library are proud to present Gershom Gorenberg. For further information or to RSVP, please contact Joan Wolchansky at JWolchansky@CAJESTL.org or 314-442-3760.
The SH’MA: Listen! Speaker Series is a new initiative of Jewish Federation of St. Louis created to highlight the speakers that local congregations, agencies and organizations are bringing to the St. Louis Jewish community. Currently, Federation is accepting submissions for 2015 events. The Israel edition will feature speakers related to Israel. To take part in this listing, please visit JFedSTL.org/SpeakerSeries. SH’MA: Listen! is made possible through the generous support of the Lubin-Green Foundation, a supporting Foundation of Jewish Federation of St. Louis, and Hank Webber and Chris Jacobs.
