The Fall meeting of the Federation Board of Trustees was held on the campus of Washington University on Sunday, November 16. Over 50 Trustees gathered for a productive meeting.

We started with a presentation from Rich Liekweg, President of Barnes Jewish Hospital. This presentation was an update on the construction at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital site on Kingshighway in St. Louis, MO.

After this presentation, Jacqueline Rivkin presented a portrait honoring the contributions of St. Louis’ last Chief Rabbi and Rebbetzin, Sholom and Paula Rivkin to our community. This portrait will hang at Jewish Federation of St. Louis headquarters in a place of honor and once it is hung, we will notify all as to the location. We appreciate this significant contribution by the Rivkin Family.

Some amendments to Federation bylaws, were presented by Lisa Gravier Barnes, Chair of the Bylaws Review Committee. These amendments were approved and passed by those in attendances.

In our Fall Issue Focus, we looked at college students in our region today, exploring the challenges and opportunities to engage students in Jewish life and the potential of retaining them in St. Louis after graduation. We were joined by a panel of 5 Jewish community leaders and 5 students.
