On our last day we had the opportunity to hear an informative presentation by Ayal Kimhi, he gave us a picture of Israeli society and economy. We were able to see Israel’s growth compared to other nations in the world. He showed us data the center collects to understand and help various groups in Israel. We had the pleasure of listening to the experience of a young man from the Haredi (Ultra Orthodox) community in Israel. Typically, the men in the community spend most of their time studying biblical texts from a young age and do not receive much formal education. Most of the men of the men in the do not serve in the Israeli military either. This particular young man is a participant in the JDC Job Center Program. The program helps these young men acquire job skills and place them in the work force. It was really interesting learning about this community and the programs to integrate them into the workforce.
The Rubin Trip is packed full of learning opportunities, it is sometimes difficult to digest it all. We had the opportunity to express what we learned during our journey through art. We revisited the story of Abraham and Isaac through representation of color and shapes. We then retold our journey through Israel the same way. It was an excellent opportunity to be able to remember and reflect on the many aspects of the trip.
Of course, we couldn’t leave for the airport without squeezing in one last dinner. We not only had a great dinner, but we also got to share some of our lasting impressions of Israel that the trip created for us. It was a great moment to reflect with each other our emotions that Israel has created in us and what part of Israel we are taking back with us. The Rubin Israel Experience brought a group of adults together from many walks of life, but had one thing in common, they wanted to experience Israel and connect with the land and her people. We may have all connected in different ways to Israel and at different moments, but each and every one of was able to connect to Israel from the many different experiences the trip offered. AMAZING! We are forever indebted to the Ron and Pam Rubin for the opportunity to have this experience. Thank you!
