We had a lovely night in the Bedouin tents! We received a warm welcome of spiced coffee, traditional songs, and an insight into the lives of the Bedouins before enjoying a communal dinner. After cookies and sweet warm tea, we cozied up in our tent to hear more about Israeli life from our peers.
Our tent was surprisingly warm, even warmer by our bonfire. Many of us were up late enjoying the stars and singing songs.
In the morning we visited Sde Boker and the grave of David Ben Gurion, the first prime minister of Israel. While we looked out on the beautiful desert mountains, Maxi told us of triumphs and challenges from Ben Gurion’s time that still affect Israel today.
We also walked through the Ein Ovdat park, where we passed waterfalls, flint stones, tasty edible desert plants, and even a dormant pistachio tree.
And of course, our trip to the desert wouldn’t be complete without a camel ride!
We then headed north to Tel Aviv, where we quickly toured the old seaport and artist colony of Jaffa before it started pouring!!
Now it’s time for a well-deserved evening free to relax and recharge for tomorrow!
Lilah tov – good night!
