Thanks to the initiative of Federation Director Rabbi Susan Talve, and the collaboration of Rabbis Jim Bennet and Carnie Rose, the Federation Board of Directors is co-sponsoring the visit by Yossi Klein HaLevi on Monday and Tuesday nights, December 8 and 9.
YKH will be speaking about his new widely reviewed book Like Dreamers: The story of the Israeli paratroopers who reunited Jerusalem and divided a nation. Tracing the lives of 7 individuals who were present at the liberation of Jerusalem in 1967, YKH describes the various directions each has taken. It is a fascinating and telling account of how individuals have dealt with the aftermath of occupation and prospects for peace during the ensuing 46 years. Despite being forged from a singular experience in 1967, the story traces individuals on the left, right and even more apathetic, well capturing the internal complexity of modern day Israel.
Yossi Klein HaLevi is a senior fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute, and a frequent contributor to The New Republic and other publications. He will be speaking at 7 PM at Congregation B’nai Amoona on Monday night December 8 and at 7PM at Central Reform Congregation on Tuesday night, December 9. Books will be available there for purchase.
