Today was the perfect follow up to our emotional day yesterday. We got up early to head down to Masada, but made a special stop along the way. In the battle for earth between Man vs Camel, Man wins again!
Masada was a refuge built by King Harod, but was used by the Jewish Zealots when fleeing the Roman army.
We all climbed up the 2.2 KM path. It was very steep with maybe 50 or 60 gazillion steps. Here we are at the starting point before Kim took off running and I crawled with my last breath up the final step.
Once up at the top, the view was well worth the climb.
Our guide during this whole 10 day trip, Amir, tells us the story of Masada and explains the various structures there. Below is a bath house. Everything under the black line is original and everything over it is archeological restoration. The Romans also built a sauna….in the desert. And people wonder why their empire fell.
The Dead Sea came next and I must say that it lived up to expectations. Floating in the Dead Sea was actually really cool. And when your skin glistens from the water and feels so smooth, it’s really adds to the whole experience. Plus, we found 4 gorgeous Merwomen on the beach!
We followed up our swim with a jeep tour that ended up overlooking the Dead Sea. The mountains around the area are basically pure salt. The guides let us out of the jeeps so that we could stop and have a taste. So how did it taste? Now I’m going to be serious for a second. I wanted to eat that wall.
The view from the top of the mountain was beautiful.
The night concluded with dinner with the Rubins. They have a 1am flight back to the states tonight so this was our last chance to see them in Israel. Safe travels!
I leave you with the sunset from on top of the salt mountains.
Pretty relaxing day tomorrow with a couple speakers, walking Jerusalem and some shopping. Hasta la bye bye!
