Jeff Hubbell, 24, never considered himself religious… and neither was his brother. However, Jeff’s brother returned from a Birthright Israel trip with an enlightened attitude about Israel and Judaism. This encouraged Jeff to sign up for the St. Louis trip. He also thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to meet other young Jews from St. Louis and a good learning experience. And like his brother, Jeff now professes a newfound respect for the Jewish religion and Israel –a result of his interactions with the Israeli people — the soldiers, tour guides and young people he met. Two highlights of the trip he noted were the Bedouin experience where the group shared a meal in one tent, and the visit to Tel Aviv, a beautiful busy city. It’s a place, he said, that if he moved to Israel, he could see himself living. Jeff personally thanks Jewish Federation and those who funded the trip for their incredible generosity. “This trip allowed me the privilege to learn and experience the Jewish culture and heritage. I was personally touched by every place I saw and every person I met. This gift and trip are something I will be telling my kids and grandkids about.” Since his return, he’s definitely more mindful of the holidays and interacting with other Jews.
