Yesterday we went to the most amazing museum in Tel Aviv. It is the Palmach museum. It is a virtual tour of Israel’s fight for Independence. I am familiar with the history of the war, but this really brought everything front and center. I was moved to tears that so many young people, 16-19 years old, fought for Israel and so many died. They were still kids as many soldiers are in Israel today. It was also very upsetting, but empowering at the same time that no other countries would help the Jews. Even countries like Britain and the United States stayed out of it. The U.N. basically handed the Jews the opportunity to fight for land that we were already on without any tools for victory. Miraculously and thankfully, the small Palmach and Haganah army of Israel won this war. I think my tears were in appreciation of what I have the opportunity to experience today.
