Eva Weyl was born on 7 June 1935 in Arnhem in the Netherlands. Her parents had previously emigrated from Germany to the Netherlands. Her grandfathers soon followed her to the Netherlands, where Eva had a wonderful childhood until she and her family were sent to the Westerbork camp in 1942 where she remained until the liberation.

Eva is the only surviving cousin of Shirley Heiman, an active member of the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum community. After the war, Eva lived with Shirley and her family as a teenager and attended Washington University in St. Louis during that time.
