Trace the remarkable story of glassmaking — from the furnaces of the ancient Near East to the workshops of the Roman world — with Sid Goldstein, former Associate Director and Curator of Ancient and Islamic Art at the Saint Louis Art Museum. Drawing on evidence from early archaeological sites, he reveals how techniques developed as early as the 2nd millennium BCE still influence the craft today. With the Roman invention of glassblowing, glass shifted from a rare luxury to everyday objects, reshaping both industry and daily life.
