In recognition of Black History Month, step into the turbulent world of Reverend Elijah P. Lovejoy, a minister, educator, journalist, and abolitionist who was deeply moved by the injustices he saw in St. Louis before the Civil War. Storyteller Barnes M. Bradshaw — in a gripping, costumed performance — shares how Lovejoy used his Alton, Illinois, newspaper to publicly condemn slavery. His words sparked outrage and ultimately led to the destruction of his printing press and the loss of his life by an angry mob.
