Help celebrate Black History Month at the Mirowitz Center with Elana Kaplan, an independent museum educator and lecturer, as she covers three influential African-American storytellers: Romare Bearden (1911–1988), Jacob Lawrence (1917–2000), and Faith Ringgold (born 1930). Elana – a former St. Louisan and an educator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for 25 years – highlights how these artists, who all grew up or trained or lived at various points in their lives in Harlem, participated in the community in important ways, with significant messages, inclusive sources of inspiration and exuberant expression.
View in person on the Mirowitz Center’s 14-foot screen (live-streamed), or watch from home via Zoom.
