St. Louis NORC Outreach, Support & Volunteer Specialist
Joan M. Hirst, MA, is the St. Louis NORC Outreach, Support & Volunteer Specialist at the Jewish Federation of St. Louis. Before joining the staff in 2012, she spent 13 years at Washington University School of Medicine as a Professional Research Coordinator in the Division of Geriatrics and Nutritional Science, Critical Care Medicine and Psychiatry. As the Outreach & Support Specialist, Joan visits members in their homes to welcome and orient to NORC benefits as well as those with special needs. She responds to member’s requests for assistance by assessing service needs, direct intervention, and information & referral services as needed. Joan provides one-on-one personal attention to NORC seniors and is passionate about making it possible for members to lead active lives, remain independent and stay socially connected while living in their own homes. Joan recruits new members within NORC boundaries and develops programming to attract the baby boomer population. She’s a longtime volunteer for the Cancer Support Community Greater St. Louis and recently Kingdom House. Joan received her Master’s degree in Counseling from Webster University in St. Louis.
