Julie recounts the story of her parents survival during the Holocaust and utilizes rare footage of her parents that was broadcast as an episode of This Is Your Life in 1953\, one of the first times a Holocaust survivor appeared on television. Beginning in 1942\, silk escape maps were standard issue to all U. S. Air Force servicemen. Hear the story and view the map given to Charles Abbott\, a prisoner of war who utilized this important fabric to survive. Participants will then create a personalized textile “map” of St. Louis. \n\n\n\nThis program complements the Stitching History from the Holocaust exhibit and invites reflection through craft. No embroidery experience needed. All materials provided. The workshop will be led by Quinn Gray\, Charles’s great niece. \n\n\n\nBefore Your Visit: \n\n\n\nFree and accessible parking available on site.
