DESCRIPTION:Get a sneak peek at Upstream Theater’s bold new production\, The End of the World Cabaret\, running April 17 through May 3. This lively\, genre‑bending work is a new adaptation of the 1936 futuristic satire Weltuntergang by Austrian playwright Jura Soyfer. Blending sharp satire\, social commentary\, music\, and humor\, the play imagines a cosmic system out of balance — and it appears humans are to blame. As a result\, a comet is sent toward Earth\, whose inhabitants respond with political misgivings\, self-sabotage\, doubt\, avoidance\, and inaction. Yet upon closer inspection\, humanity’s profound beauty and resilience shine through\, suggesting the world — and its people — may still be worth saving. \n\n\n\nDuring this Mirowitz Center preview\, performers will share select scenes and musical numbers\, discuss Soyfer’s life and the adaptation process\, and take part in a conversation with the audience.
