The Suzy Esstman Charitable Fund was created in memory of Suzy Esstman, a philanthropist and community activist from St. Louis, Missouri. Its mission is to improve the lives of people in the local community in a way that embodies the spirit and embraces the values of Suzy Esstman – including persistent optimism and selfless leadership. Suzy loved growing and building communities, with a passion for education. She volunteered tirelessly at her childrens’ schools in the Parkway School District and at the Jewish Community Center, receiving the JCC’s highest honor for service to the community. Beyond volunteering, Suzy founded the Walk on Sunshine charity event (later renamed in her honor) which raised over $200,000 for brain tumor research.
The Suzy Esstman Charitable Fund has partnered with a variety of organizations to deliver on its mission. Recent initiatives include:
- Suzy Zucker Esstman Educational Grants – in collaboration with the Parkway Alumni Association, the fund provided grants to Parkway School District teachers for projects that enrich the education experience for their students.
- Sunshine Educational Grants – in collaboration with Camp Kesem, the fund provided grants to Camp Kesem chapters for educational experiences in support of campers (i.e., children impacted by a parent’s cancer).
- Early Childhood Learning Environment – in collaboration with Central Reform Congregation, the fund supported development of outdoor learning and play resources.
Please note: This fund is held by the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, but funds are distributed by family honoring Suzy’s passions.
