Join Jewish Federation of St. Louis for the next events in the Sh’ma: Listen! Speaker Series on September 12 and 13 with Shira Richter.

Being a Woman Who Loves Men and Hates War

Monday, September 12, 2016
7:00-8:30 pm

Israeli multidisciplinary feminist artist Shira Richter visually tells how love for a man taught her about the mysterious disappearance of a woman’s secret and forgotten power, and how it connects to big picture economics and politics. This is a visual lecture with lots of artistic images, a story, a context, interesting facts from different disciplines and possibly some humor!

Do We Value Our Values?

Tuesday, September 13, 2016
11:30 am-1:00 pm

Through visual storytelling, Shira draws connections between the personal “little” story of becoming a mother/parent and the “bigger” story of global economics. This is a perspective of an enthusiastic and idealistic feminist artist who realizes we mean good, but tend to trip on the gap between word and actions.

Shira Richter is the director of an award winning adventure film about women’s and mother’s voices regarding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict, and the creator of acclaimed photography exhibitions and installations about the value and economic status of mothers, fathers and other careers in society. She is a visual performance lecturer, writer, curator and advocate for inclusion of gender studies in the formal educational system, changing the definition of postpartum depression, a supporter of moderate voices and context-based evaluation. Shira is visiting the States as an international guest of the group exhibition, “The Women & Money Project,” at the Katharine E. Nash Gallery of the University of Minnesota Department of Art, created together with Minnesota Women’s Caucus for Art. Her visit is partially funded by the Israeli consulate of Chicago.

Both events will take place at the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, 12 Millstone Campus Drive. Brown bag lunches welcome. Drinks and dessert will be provided; dietary laws observed.
