Jewish Federation of St. Louis is pleased to announce that CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation), more commonly referred to as ‘open captioning,’ will be provided at the upcoming Annual Meeting on Monday, September 22. As an ongoing initiative, Federation is excited to lead the Jewish community in an effort to provide inclusive services at large events and raise awareness about the accommodations available to improve access to communication.

CART is specifically designed to provide live captioning for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing and is the highest quality transcription service available with 98.5% accuracy. Captioning is a rising trend not only for individuals who are deaf but also for people experiencing mild to moderate hearing losses and even for those who do not have hearing loss, due in large part to greater access to captioning on TV and on the internet. In fact, current research has found that up to 80% of people who use captioning in the home do not have hearing loss. Jewish Federation is proud to introduce the St. Louis community to this important resource and take this first step towards a more inclusive, accessible environment for all.

For more information about inclusion services, please contact Rinat Kisin at 314-442-3801 or RKisin@JFedSTL.org.The Annual Meeting will take place at the Jewish Community Center’s Arts & Education Building, 2 Millstone Campus Drive. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6:00 pm in advance of the 7:00 pm meeting, which will inform the community about Federation’s work this past year and include an election of officers, at-large directors and trustees. The attendance cost is $18 per person; all are welcome. Please RSVP by September 17 at JFedSTL.org/JFed14 or contact Amy Pakett at 314-442-3840, APakett@JFedSTL.org .
