Jessica BergJessica Berg started her involvement with philanthropy in high school, participating in charity runs, canned food drives and other activities at Parkway Central High. Then she got more involved during college at University of Missouri–Columbia, within the college and in the local community through service projects. “I have been so blessed in my life that I feel it’s important I give to those who are less fortunate,” says Berg.

Now a sales event coordinator at Essence Healthcare, Berg continues to give back through Federation’s Young Professionals Division (YPD). “I got my foot in the door at the Lollapajewza event during winter break when I was home from Mizzou,” Berg says. “It was a comfortable environment, I knew people, and I started getting involved. I went to YPD events and donated each time.” Last year, Berg got involved on the planning side of YPD. “I feel like it’s a tight-knit group of friends; we relate to each other, and I love that about YPD,” she says.

Another thing Berg likes about YPD is the ability to connect to the outcome of her donations. “Lee’at [Bachar, the Federation’s Development Associate for YPD] tells us what results from our donations,” she says. “Seeing how I can make a difference in someone’s life is one reason why I donate. From a personal standpoint, it’s fulfilling for me to feel like I’m doing good.”

Berg has found a connection with YPD. “I’ve grown close to people through Federation,” she says. “It feels like a big family; we are all there for the same reason, and I like what they stand for.”
