We are absolutely thrilled to announce that the Holocaust Museum & Learning Center, a department of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, has been awarded a $750,000 challenge grant from prestigious National Endowment for the Humanities.
On January 27, we will host an event to detail how this grant will help the Museum to continue its mission and expand it for the next 25 years.
This award is in recognition of the value of this resource to the region and our upcoming expansion plans, which will be made possible because of people like you. The NEH clearly saw the value in our project. The NEH awarded the full $750,000 we requested, which according to its website is one of the largest ever NEH grants for a Holocaust-related project.
NEH awards are made to exceptional projects that symbolize humanities activities that truly transcend time. During the Holocaust, there were many different roles: liberator, bystander, collaborator, upstander, and, of course, victim. These remain the very roles still faced in everyday life. The expanded facility will address the fundamental question of each generation: human rights and how we treat one another.
This $750,000 award requires a 4:1 match and is designed to leverage federal funds to increase private, state, and local support for humanities projects.
