Annual Meeting and Community Event to take place September 3
All members of the Jewish community are invited to enjoy entertainment, games, prizes and more at “Get in the Olive Groove,” a block party themed around Building Community Connections. The event, taking place on September 3 at the Public Media Commons, will celebrate the St. Louis Jewish community. Learn about some of the great work local organizations are accomplishing with help from Jewish Federation of St. Louis while enjoying Kosher refreshments from a variety of local purveyors.
Featured entertainment includes:
- Brothers Lazaroff- David and Jeff Lazaroff have been playing music and writing songs together since their high school days. The duo carried on composing as a team for more than a decade while David lived in Austin and Jeff was in St. Louis. All the while, the songwriters continued to develop their roots-driven sound. Currently reunited in St. Louis, the fraternal front men are a staple of the local music scene and draw crowds all over town.
- Bella and Lilly- Bella & Lily, an indie/pop band hailing from St. Louis, burst onto the music scene with an array of original pop songs. Having grown up in a family of musicians, painters and writers, sisters Bella and Lily Ibur gravitated toward music at an early age. The band Bella & Lily is rounded out by Jharis Yokley (drums), Tony Zerbolio (bass), Josh Kohn (lead and rhythm guitars), and Jake Brookman (cello).
- Circus Harmony- Circus Harmony uses the teaching and performing of circus arts to motivate social change. Earlier this year, a group of 20 students from Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School joined with youth from Ferguson for a special program, Peace Through Pyramids, to learn circus arts and create a collaborative performance. Through perseverance and trust, Circus Harmony teaches tomorrow’s youth from different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds that we are more alike than different.
- Milt’s Food Truck- Great BBQ comes straight from Chicago on Milt’s Food Truck. Serving only the highest quality kosher meats, Milt’s assures a delectable experience. From their on-site smoked meats to vegetarian options, you will be tempted by a variety of mouth-watering choices.
- Tap Snap- Tap Snap has done away with the traditional photo booth and reinvented it for the social media era. Participants will use an interactive touch screen to play around with props and instantly share pictures on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms.
Winners of the David N. and Roselin Grosberg Young Leadership Awards and the Fred A. Goldstein Memorial Service Award for Professional Excellence will also be presented. Applications are being accepted through July 20. One award honors professionals working for a Jewish community organization and the other honors volunteer leaders in the Jewish community who are age 45 or younger. Prior to the Community Event, the 113th Annual Meeting will take place at the Nine Network Studio Area, 3655 Olive Street. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served at 5:00 pm in advance of the meeting, which will inform the community about Jewish Federation of St. Louis’ work this past year and what can be expected for the future. Included during the Annual Meeting will be an election and installation of officers.
