Monday, 4/14/14 — Jewish Federation of St. Louis has just learned of the shooting at the Kansas City Jewish Community Center and Village Shalom. Although we have very little information at this time, it appears this is the work of a lone gunman who has been apprehended.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of this tragedy. We are following these events closely, monitoring as any new information comes in. Naturally we support our local JCC and put the highest priority on the safety and security of the members of our community (both locally and across the entire region). We are in close contact with the leaders of the St. Louis JCC, as well as other local Jewish institutions, to support their efforts. While we believe this is an isolated incident, all are taking it very seriously. Leaders at the J are speaking with the County and Chesterfield police and developing appropriate plans to take all necessary precautions here in our own community.
